UFO investigator Mark Christopher Lee has issued a public appeal for the Vatican to declassify what he believes are “hundreds” of hidden documents detailing centuries of potential UFO sightings stored in its underground archives.

The Holy See has come under fire, accused by some researchers of cooperating with the U.S. government to suppress evidence of extraterrestrial encounters. These allegations gained momentum after Pentagon whistleblower David Grusch testified that the Vatican was involved in concealing a UFO crash in Italy during the 1930s.

Lee, an expert in the intersection of religion and alien phenomena, argues that historical records held by the Vatican could fundamentally alter humanity’s perception of its place in the universe. With the recent passing of Pope Francis, he calls on the Church to embrace full transparency.

“If the Catholic Church is truly committed to spiritual truth and human enlightenment,” Lee says, “it can no longer hide information that could transform our understanding of the cosmos.”

Lee also raises the possibility that some religious accounts may actually describe early UFO encounters misinterpreted through the lens of ancient cultures: “Some of what people saw and recorded could indeed have been extraterrestrial crafts, although secret advanced military technology might also explain certain cases.”

UFO investigator and director Mark Christopher Lee has called on the Holy See to release “hundreds” of classified documents about potential sightings from underground archives.

He cautions the public not to oversimplify the phenomenon: “This isn’t just about ‘little green men.’ There’s a complex reality behind these sightings that the public deserves to understand. Keeping this information hidden does not protect us—it keeps us in the dark.”

This renewed call for disclosure follows David Grusch’s bombshell 2023 testimony, where the former intelligence official claimed the U.S. government has recovered alien spacecraft and possibly even non-human biological remains.

When questioned under oath about the existence of such craft, Grusch affirmed: “Absolutely, based on interviews with over 40 witnesses over four years. I know the precise locations.” He further alleged that whistleblowers faced violent retaliation to keep the programs secret.

During a congressional hearing, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) directly asked Grusch if murders had been committed to maintain UFO secrecy. Grusch, treading carefully, said he had directed individuals with such knowledge to the proper authorities.

The Pentagon, however, continues to deny these explosive claims. Defense Department spokesperson Sue Gough stated that investigators have not uncovered “any verifiable information to substantiate claims that programs involving the possession or reverse-engineering of extraterrestrial materials exist.”

As public interest in UFO disclosure reaches unprecedented heights, pressure is mounting on institutions like the Vatican to lift the veil on what could be humanity’s greatest cosmic
